Dream. Photo by Obed Arango, 2012

I arrived home, my parents were happy to see me, I arrived in time to load firewood, that was for me, it was freedom, it was my life, I felt like I was me again.

I felt like I had failed them and if they knew what I had gotten into they would scold me very badly, but it was better not to give them a hard time so I decided to keep it to myself and nothing more.

For his part, my friend Elias had my letters from my great love saved, because he knew that at some point I would return and his letters would be read by me.

Happy to hear from him, I began to have contact again. We knew it was better to hide it since his parents didn’t want me as his girlfriend, so we kept the secret. Elias my love and me.

I spent a year and months in my house, during that time I helped my old lady make tortillas because they were sold in the town market and that was how we supported ourselves, and my love from time to time sent me money since he was in Phoenix Arizona.

In one of the letters he told me that he was going to the town and that it was best for both of us to go to the United States. But I was on other wavelengths, now I say that when it’s not for you it’s but it wasn’t like that, he couldn’t contact me and he left with the hope that one day I would return.

When I made the decision to go with him, I did tell my mother and my old lady said daughter, that lady will make your life impossible, she said it, she doesn’t want you for her son and I was stupid but I love her and he loves me so I didn’t mind leaving them again, but now it was different, I was going with the love of my life – according to me – and if I did, I crossed the desert, I walked a lot without water and without food. Unfortunately for me, they caught me and I went back. I didn’t give up, I tried again, he was worried about me since crossing the border was not easy, of course it has never been easy to cross the border. The second time I crossed with other people, someone came who was the son of someone he knew and it was as if he took care of me and the boy took care of me during the crossing.

His name was Gustavo, he was from Iguala, Guerrero was almost my age and, unfortunately for me, that was one of the many reasons why I would later go on that adventure.

We arrived at a restaurant, there they handed us over, I was on my back, I felt like my heart was beating because I would see my love again. I heard the man’s cell phone ring and he said, “If we’re inside, come in and when you give me the money, we’re going to go to the bathroom.” good. The door opens Gustavo’s gaze lit up I heard a man’s voice and he said mijo Gustavo got up and walked a few steps I was stiff with nerves and little by little as if it were in slow motion I moved my head to see my love but He is on the other side of where I looked, I didn’t see him and in seconds I felt a hand grab my shoulder. I turned around quickly and if it was him, my boyfriend was my love. I got up, we hugged and we were hugging for seconds and the man said They love each other but we have to leave, we laughed, we looked into each other’s eyes and we hugged each other so much that I felt like everything that had happened had been a nightmare and that it was time to be with the person I loved.

On the way home we never let go of each other’s hands. It was as if when he let go of my hand he lost me again. I leaned on his shoulder and couldn’t believe that we were already together and very far from everyone and everything.

That it was time to be happy because everything that had happened to me was because I had lost it once in that time, that’s what I thought, but now I say I had to live that to be the person I am.

Moments of joy, a very beautiful party was held and my heart introduced me to everyone, each person who arrived told them she is here with me, she is my girlfriend, I always smiled with so much pride.

It was everything, I felt as if life was beginning to see it in beautiful colors since for a long time I saw it as the color of a black ant. The days passed and everything was going wonderfully, but the sister showed up, of course she didn’t like me. That woman never spoke to me during my time there with him. That’s where the nightmare began.

I will call her candy, it is similar to a name but she had nothing of that, she was a very confident woman in the way that she had studied to be a secretary, well, that is why she worked for a long time in the town and that made her believe that she was superior to everyone. Now I know about her life and I am very sad because despite everything I go through, she does not deserve to be in a situation in which she lives now.

But in the end, life is in charge of being with everyone what we sow in this life, that’s what I believe, candy. All the time I told my heart to go eat at his house because I didn’t know how to do anything and he began to investigate my life since He left my side for the first time and gave her a list of things that according to her I did were 3 months of sweetness but then it was living hell for me.

One day Caramel came home and said, I want to talk to you, addressing him.

And he said – and you go outside -, I stayed cold, I didn’t know what was happening, my mind started to wander and I only saw how he made gestures with his hands and he just stayed silent, then when she left he told me good luck and I swear that I’m going to separate you from my brother because he deserves better than you.

I was afraid and everything went in and he didn’t say anything, he left and arrived very late haaa because the young man had a vice and it was playing cards and going to the casino but anyway that night I hardly slept I was terrified of being alone.

Since that afternoon nothing was the same.

My martyrdom of life began, he was jealous but after that it was worse, he couldn’t go out when it was his turn to play cards at home because his friends took turns on the weekends, it was at each other’s house and that was when I realized that that wasn’t the case. looked good to me

There were days when he would just arrive, take a shower and leave, but when he arrived he would fight over stupid things, it wasn’t even about things that were worth it, and he started to say that maybe his family was right, I could endure a lot.

I had a cousin who we had crossed the border and he knew everything about how he treated me but he never got involved, he just watched and said here I am because if I tell him something this is going to end badly and you would be the one harmed.

He watched my cousin and I talking because he also played cards and when it was his turn at home I saw my cousin and it was the worst thing I had done at that moment. I didn’t know if what he said was true but it was unheard of to hear. so much nonsense, what’s more, I was cold, I didn’t know it.

My life fell apart, it was at the top of the worst I had ever experienced.

I will never forget that day. It was a Saturday at around 3 in the morning. I only felt how he pulled me by the hand and began to hit me as if he were possessed. I would never have imagined that he would do that to me. His eyes looked hateful and his voice was from another world just remembering makes me feel sorry for that person

And so days passed in which I began to get into solitude, I had nothing left but to write and write what was happening and how I made love stories of which was my idea of being with the love of your life.

But of course it was stories, for me there were only bad words, insults, mockery and what hurt me the most was that I had left everything to follow LOVE.

    THE INBETWEEN ZONE

From the play The Elephant in the Room by Priyanka Shetty

    I’m in the Inbetween Zone.

    Neither here nor there.

    Neither this nor that.

    Neither black nor white.

But I have to be something…

    I’m in the Inbetween Zone.

I don’t fit in, to their idea of who I should be.

I don’t have to be what they want me to be.

But I’m losing parts of myself every day

Parts of me are stolen, ripped away

Like the tusks of an elephant.

When it suits them, they like my “otherness”

When it suits them, they will use my “otherness”

    What’s the buzzword- Diversity?

    I’m in the Inbetween Zone.

“Too many immigrants, send everyone back.

    You will not replace us.

You will not take our jobs.”

    But I am an artist.

I want to be an artist in America.

“To be an artist in America

    You need an Artist Visa.

And for that you need an Oscar,

Or an Emmy or a Grammy

Or you need to be the

    Lead in a Hollywood movie.”

    But I just got here.

    I don’t have enough Time-

“I don’t know. Figure it out Priyanka.

Do you want to stay or go back to your country?

    YOU WILL NOT REPLACE US!”

    That’s a load of shit!

    Smells of elephant droppings…

Oh! Look here – this one’s HUGE.

There’s an elephant in the room.

I’m different so I make you uncomfortable.

There’s an elephant in the room.

Oh, I hear its trumpet loud and clear.

But you refuse to see it.

There’s an elephant in the room!

Maybe you can only see it

    In the Inbetween Zone.

    I’m in the upside down.

    This is the inside out.

    This is the Inbetween Zone.

Where I’ve been asked to erase

Every trace of what makes me who I am

Until I’m this totally unrecognizable mess

Who belongs nowhere and will never be

    Fully accepted here anyway.

When will I be enough for you?

When will I be white enough for you?

    Your little white elephant–

    Your troublesome and useless possession.

    Your ridiculous circus elephant

    Constantly jumping through hoops.

You want to tame me, chain me.

Crush my spirit and force me into submission.

I need to beg, plead, bleed

You want me groveling on the floor

Joining my hand in servitude. NO.

Don’t you think for a moment

That I’ll give you that power over me.

Don’t you think for a moment that I’ll forget.

What did they tell you about an elephant’s memory?

    An elephant never forgets.

    I will never forget-

The 23-year-old Indian woman in Seattle

Run over by a cop car and killed and he says,

“We’ll just write them a check, her life had limited value.”

Two Indian men shot a bar in Kansas.

    “Go back to your country!”

Then he pulls his gun, shoots them both

    And kills one of them.

    Is this the American dream?

Is this the land of opportunity?

What opportunities can we possibly pursue

    In this climate of animosity

    This dizzying rise of hatred.

Where you constantly sow the seeds

    For these extreme events

With your everyday under the cover racism!

    We’re in the upside down.

    We’re in the inside out.

We’re in the in between zone.

    No quitarás nuestros trabajos”.

    Pero soy una artista.

Quiero ser artista en los Estados Unidos.

“Ser un artista en los Estados Unidos

    Necesitas una Visa de Artista.

Y para eso necesitas un Oscar,

O un Emmy o un Grammy

    O necesitas ser el

    Protagonizar una película de Hollywood”.

    Pero acabo de llegar.

    No tengo suficiente tiempo-

    “No sé. Descúbrelo Priyanka.

    ¿Quieres quedarte o regresar a tu país?

    ¡NO NOS REEMPLAZARÁS!”

¡Eso es un montón de mierda!

    Huele a excrementos de elefante…

¡Oh!

    Tal vez solo puedas verlo

    Quieres domarme, encadenarme.

Aplasta mi espíritu y oblígame a la sumisión.

    Necesito rogar, suplicar, sangrar

¿Quieres que me arrastre en el suelo?

Uniendo mi mano en servidumbre. NO.

    “¡Vuelve a tu país!”

My mother used to braid my hair.

She had learned from her mother.

My hair was as long as it was strong,

    Down to my waist,

    Teasing the floor.

I used to sit in the bathroom as she tugged the hairs tight.

    “¡Siéntate bien!”

She’d say with all her might.

I loved my hair like branches intertwined.

They danced as they swung left and right.

    “¡Siéntate bien!”

    She’d say and I wouldn’t fight.

I felt connected to her then,

Her strong hands from years of work.

I can imagine her sitting as a child with her mother telling her,

    “¡Siéntate bien!”

How her body must have looked like mine.

    Full of contained energy.

    Our bodies are trunks,

    With roots that go beyond.

They intertwine like the branches of our hair.

I was 16 when I cut it all off.

My once expanding branches mere twigs.

It took me a few more years to let my hair grow out again.

It no longer teases the floor but it rests on my shoulders.

The once strong branches are mending.

Although they are not what they used to be,

I can still feel the connection.

    Through the branches,

    Into the trunk,

    Down to the roots,

A body that never once forgot.

    Me siento bien.

    decía y no me resistía.

    Me siento bien.

Decías: – ¡Ustedes me dan mucha hueva!

Ahora comienzo a comprender.

¡Tan-tan! ¿Quién es? Es el Diablo,

    es una espesa fatiga,

    un ansia de trasponer

    estas lindes enemigas,

    este morir incesante,

    tenaz, esta muerte viva,

¡oh Dios! que te está matando

    en tus hechuras estrictas,

en las rosas y en las piedras,

    en las estrellas ariscas

y en la carne que se gasta

    como un hoguera encendida,

por el canto, por el sueño,

por el color de la vista.

¡Tan-tan! ¿Quién es? Es el Diablo,

    ay, una ciega alegría,

    un hambre de consumir

    el aire que se respira,

    la boca, el ojo, la mano;

    estas pungentes cosquillas

    de disfrutarnos enteros

    The Last Supper (IV)

Without Henry and without a secret room

While we remembered that magical place, we discovered that there was no longer a secret room like that, there was a continuous space that Adalberto learned to mutate into intimacy through a black velvet curtain, like the good vampire spirit that he is. This transformation was a product of the fact that Adalberto had learned the hard way to get closer to others, as if he sensed that you, Henry, would not always be there to bring him closer to those he did not know how to be close to.

I remember well that when we were students, the unsociable K hardly greeted all those young people who were waiting for him, intimidated and dazzled. All the kids wanted to be like him: if he showed up one day wearing flip-flops, the next day they would surely do it, they even spoke in the same tone, so much so that sometimes it confused me. It was truly touching… but also dangerous. They said that it was a tree so leafy, so leafy, that under its bosom many other plants could begin to grow, many small herbs, but they could never, never, receive the sun fully and acquire the same majesty. Wow, Adalberto was not kind, he was sullen and of few words but Henry, Henry always knew how to break the ice, how to make K’s wild, tender and chiaroscuro creature come out of its sacred and secret redoubt.

However, this time, in that new building, the heavy soft-touch curtain was drawn: no secret room, and neither was Henry. On the other hand, the wonderful logs that ejected a golden light when slightly opened were so visible that it was no longer possible to enjoy seeing them secretly as before: no one would discover us and with that we also felt that an era had gone.

That time Adalberto discovered me reviewing the magnificent notebooks where his imagination had been printed, he smiled and, strangely, that grumpy, that “selfish giant” didn’t say anything. However, a few days later, I found my bag on a table with all the things from outside… among them were some business cards that said my name and the brand new title “student”, hahaha (my dad had tenderly sent them to me do). Well, one of those cards had a huge star drawn on it. When I saw the painting I blushed and didn’t understand what had happened. Suddenly, Adalberto approached me and confessed: I had to draw a star because you are “a star student”! laughing mockingly, hahaha how can I forget that… Those times were behind us and you, your teacher, did not show… not a trace of you: Henry, where the hell (yes, the hell because you are one), where the hell have you gone!?

    The extinguished volcano

I don’t know how, but the afternoon began to get sad. It wasn’t easy to keep our spirits up without your jokes, without your witticisms, and well, even without your rudeness. Between the sullen Adalberto, the elusive Alexander, the sad Valerio, between the forced José Carlos, Lucy and I were beginning to feel exhausted.

And well, Monster, it must also be said, there was another side of the coin that we rarely wanted to see: yes, it’s true, you were humor, vitality, madness… but behind all that vibration of yours there was a deep melancholy. To tell the truth, I had a hard time dealing with her, I didn’t want to see you sad. But it was even worse when you turned that sadness into an incomprehensible rage that you launched against whoever was next to you as if claiming not to find something you had always been looking for without knowing for sure what it was. You said: – You give me a lot of eggs! And well, now remembering it makes me laugh, but the truth is you said it angry, with an air of disappointment for life and for us. There yes my Master, there yes I did not want to learn from you or make that pain my own. However, despite everything, I learned, dear Henry, that people are chiaroscuros, it’s just that maybe sometimes you let the darkness win (now that I think about it, I understand your resonance with Valerio).

I remember like this, when one time, in that peculiar way that you had to offer us the incarnated world that you called architecture on the table of a canteen, the voice of the famous “Prince of Song” began to be heard in the background: the extinct volcano, That was your song, but I just didn’t want to accept it, I don’t think any of us wanted to see it.

The zero hour, the gray hour

While we wandered around looking for you in vain, Valerio and José Carlos stayed on the terrace at that time when the day has ended but the sky is not yet colored with black night, but with an unbearable gray. It was that time when doctors say that serotonin reserves reach their lowest level and the feeling of anxiety usually increases in those who suffer from it. It was zero hour.

At that time, I did not understand, first, why you had invited a character as cloudy as Valerio, but even less so a character as empty as José Carlos. Now I’m beginning to understand.

Valerio was so discouraged that afternoon that he thought it was useless to look for you. He no longer believed in living forces, in amazement and the value of illusion… yes, my dear Master, he looked like you when in the early mornings, after an outpouring of passion, madness and love for life and drift, A being was beginning to emerge that could neither handle restlessness nor an uncontrollable impulse of self-destruction. He looked like you like when you threw yourself off a second floor in the middle of the festival of the Holy Cross – certain death from which you were incomprehensibly saved thanks to a small pile of sand –, he looked like you when you decided – according to you – to teach Luisito ( my intelligent little big brother) how you crossed the streets in Mexico and you rushed without thinking onto Avenida Patriotismo and were run over. That time no one explained how it was that you didn’t receive any scratches and that even the hardest thing was the taxi that hit you. He looked like you in that discouragement about life and that uncontrollable attraction to the sad passions that steal vital power.

But, at the same time, Valerio was not like you in that miracle that always saved you, in that diabolical miracle: in those gestures that were intended to be tragic, in reality there was pure comedy and a crazy little devil always emerged that you later assumed with complete propriety. wearing a red cape at that party where, when I went to receive you, you appeared to me in a jump reciting: Death without end.

When the gods want you to fall

At that time I thought I knew everything about you Master. I had studied you to the point of exhaustion as one studies someone one adores because yes, I adored you and I adore you. However, I was wrong. I sensed, it is true, that something was not in harmony but, wow! What’s wrong with a little atonality, didn’t you teach us the value of transgression?

In that youthful arrogance, I thought I had understood everything: of course you were immortal, of course nothing would happen to you because, simply, you did not want to die. You were an implacable force, a contagious laugh, a strong stroke and a thunderous scream. You were very real Master: human, too human.

Well, wow, that’s why – I think I’ve said it many times already, sorry, dear readers – why did you invite José Carlos?! You had given me the answer – yes, coded as always (and please, imagine how I rolled my eyes towards the sky with great exhaustion hahaha) – years ago when I asked you why you fed the ego of the most disastrous of my schoolmates, You answered me:

–When the gods want you to fall, they flatter you – you said.

Dear reader, dear reader, I will not say more, now then, at least I think so, I have understood better.

    The big sail

There was a moment when Alexander, Lucy and I decided to return to the magical terrace. The truth is that it didn’t seem like we were going anywhere and, besides, so much nostalgia had begun to make us a little sad. We thought it was better to return to the table, you were surely about to arrive, you never failed.

When we arrived on the terrace, in that empty center where the saucepan was, there was now also a large, but what do I mean large, a huge lit white candle! Well, it turns out that Adalberto was the intellectual author of such an extravagance and responded to the fact that he was invoking you, so what if you were already rushing to appear, because as a joke it was stopping working. Valerio was sitting gray, without hiding his disappointment, while José Carlos was already a little impatient because for him “unpunctuality is for mediocre”… as if it were really so easy to characterize mediocrity in angry formulas, in short.

Returning to the burning candles, this Adalbertian custom went back a long time. Once, when I worked for K, some time after Lucy and I had done so in our early youth, I had had a serious disagreement with him. You had warned me with your very unique way of creating crude metaphors:

    – If one day he dares to bark at you, bark at him too! Bark louder! – you said madly.

The truth is I don’t know what you sensed or what you were warning but, in fact, after many years of having received the privilege of the wolf’s tenderness, suddenly, zaz, K screamed at me and, well, now well taught, I screamed back.

Anyway, the story did not end well, I ended up being excluded from a project to which I had dedicated some time and, above all, in which I had invested my enthusiasm. When I found out about my official dispossession, I felt that you had failed me, that you, my supposed Guardian Devil, had not watched my back. Eventually, when forgiveness came, K wisely enunciated: Henry says he is the devil but, in reality, he is an angel. From then on, Adalberto lights a giant candle every day in his secret garden for you.

Well, that candle next to the saucepan was your candle and we had nothing left but to start eating without you: you were not there but, in reality, you were in the memories that each of our memories had made emerge during that search game. . And well, in the end, for you who were also motivated by those British formulas like José Carlos, I’m sure that if you hadn’t arrived by then, you wouldn’t mind if we started eating without you.

    Taste breaks into genres

I once read in a cooking treatise that stated that, before the Renaissance, there was no such thing as the notion of “good taste.” It was assumed that it was more about an absolutely singular quality and that little could be said about the worth of a dish but about the partial experience of it. In the case of your little piggy, Master, it seemed that the medievals were wrong: How can we forget that 66th birthday of yours that you cooked for all your guests! And so yes, how could we not think that you would decide to celebrate name day number 66 as the most important of your existence, the existence of the Devil Master.

For this reason, when we decided to start dinner, guided by the aroma, we were sure that you had prepared the succulent dish from your homeland, Yucatán. Also, confident in the legend proven in that legendary celebration, we knew that no one could resist such a succulent flavor. However, something very strange happened: taste in its medieval meaning became an experience that day. Really, Monster, seriously, you’re a devil, you do magic, although probably black!

While Valerio began to eat using the fork fussyly and slowly making a face of deep displeasure; José Carlos ate voraciously. When I observed that the second one touched his belly, it seemed logical to me that after his hasty gesture when eating. a sort of embarrassment came over him. In the case of Valerio, it seemed obvious to me that he was disgusted, he lived like that. I didn’t suspect anything else.

When Adalberto began with the first bite, he began to gain enthusiasm, I even observed that his always exaggerated and sullen face became more affable, but yes, he always remained like that wild little creature that you can’t trust. For his part, Alexander, always discreet when eating, did so delicately, showing an enjoyment that seemed to bring out a certain shine from the discreet black of his clothing… Lucy, on the other hand, ate with great enjoyment and seemed to want to laugh out loud, with total self-confidence and with a new taste of freedom.

Finally, I, Alba, was overwhelmed by the wonderful flavor that seemed to transmute me into light, like that time when I went to that party dressed in white and you presented me to the people as your Alba, your white “alba.” They say, then, that light is a wave and a particle at the same time, a particle that moves at infinite speed: that’s how I felt, freed from constrictions and open to being crossed by the world. Yes, my beloved Master, you made me discover what it means to be fully free, to become – as that cursed philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, would have said – who I am.

What has all this been about?! I don’t understand what happened, but I’m sure that since then we are no longer the same: “Teacher is the one who changes your life.”

    Goodbye and flowers

As expected, Valerio and José Carlos had become unwell, they seemed to not be able to bear what was mutating inside them after such an alchemical banquet – which, of course, probably had not gone down so well with them. They decided to leave then, without waiting any longer for you. They did not understand that, no matter what they did, there was something in them that had begun to change and that, therefore, they would never be the same.

We – Lucy, Alexander, Adalberto and I – were aware that something was happening to us. something that, on the one hand was undoubtedly delicious, but also stirred an internal restlessness that was scary, very scary. Yes, that happens when you transmute: someone you were begins to die, someone you are about to be has not yet been born. And, that new being that will emerge does not come from merely within, but is a kind of alchemy, it is a kind of encounter, of “between” that gives birth to those who were not there before. As the wonderful and eccentric writer, Anaïs Nin, said: “Each friend represents a world within us, a world that perhaps would not have been born if we had not known it.” I’m not sure what happened, but I know we ate something that woke up something that was previously fast asleep.

Faced with such an event, we could not help but celebrate in your own way because, although you had not arrived, curiously your presence was felt among and in us. How can we forget then that whenever a meeting began to run out, you decided not to share bread, but to share rose petals dipped in a little mezcal with all those who, yes, sometimes despite ourselves, love you dearly. We began to taste the petals of some wild flowers that K had in his garden, previously submerged in our glasses, and thus, we toasted you.

    Flowers, paper and graphite

It turns out, teacher, that those exotic flowers we ate were not just any. A few years ago, when I was working for Adalberto in a second round, he gave me a bouquet that he knew came from his garden. A few hours later, Lula, the office assistant, came to ask me who had given me those flowers, to which I responded that K. She abruptly threw them into the trash can and told me, don’t accept them again. Frankly, I didn’t understand anything, until after months I found out that those flowers were nothing more, and nothing less, than floripondios. Floripondio is known for its hallucinogenic capacity and for the loss of will in those who consume it.

Well, those flowers that would make us lose lucidity for a few hours were the wafer that we shared trying to invoke you. After a while of consuming them, we thought we heard you, but no, nothing, you were still not there.

However, I was sure that I had had a sincere, very honest dialogue with you. I told you then that you were my teacher and that, no matter what happened, you would remain my teacher. I also told you that, despite your betrayals that I was never going to forget, I would always take you with me. That despite that disconcerting behavior of intermittent approach and rejection I would love you, but that, without a doubt, I needed to keep a certain distance that would allow me not to be consumed by that destructiveness of yours. You seemed to understand it and it seemed that, from then on, I would also sign an agreement with all those outsiders whom few people approach for fear of their unexpected attacks… I knew, dear teacher, that since

So, without knowing it, I signed a pact with the (master) Devil where I would assume acceptance towards all those renegades of the world, but also, I would assume that, to stay alive, without being consumed by them, I would learn to keep a certain distance… Thus a period passed. time, sacred time, outside the orbit of the linear time of productivity: we never knew how long Lucy, Alexander, Adalberto and I spent talking to that hologram of yours summoned by the perfumes tasted from the floripondio. Each of us spoke with a different you… only we, perhaps, know who or what we spoke to that night (and perhaps we don’t even know it completely).

When we returned from the trip, we were able to see on our plates, those where the sacred suckling pig was once served, pieces of paper with barely distinguishable traces of your strokes… what did that mean? Had your strokes been the fuel for that stew? what the hell had we eaten? Where the hell were you Master?!

I only know that I remembered how you used to take a mechanical pencil out of your shirt pocket and say passionately: “This is what I earn my living”, yes, it was your graphite that fed you and that which we had eaten.

The thorny stem of the rose

Sergio, that naive companion had proposed a diagram in which a human torso appeared. You had made a gesture of concern… we didn’t see that powerful story coming that you would give us once again.

–…of the rose, I keep its stem, its thorns and the strength that maintains it– you said.

What did that mean? Sergio, intrigued, tried to understand. All of us, at almost twenty years old, were embarrassed to try to understand that mystical truth that you were bringing in the form of an aphorism. It seemed to say that it was not the flowering of the rose that made it be, but rather that which sustained it, that manifested and conducted its strength.

I can’t say that I understood it that day, to tell the truth it has taken me all these years to decipher the truth that you were revealing to us: about life, the act; of the body, its dance… of your log, the trace that was the trace of that gesture of your hand that today seemed to have vanished forever… although not so much, the taste that had remained in my mouth was one of graphite and charcoal.

    Immolation

Alba, Alba, react! Lucy said a little desperately, while Adalberto rocked mechanically and alone on the swing and while Alexander, with his thin figure, looked at the wooded tide in front of the great tower with his hands stuck in his arms. pockets.

What’s wrong, what’s wrong? I answered while Lucy seemed to finally breathe a little calm.

Then I knew everything, Lucy had found out along with Alex. Adalberto simply couldn’t believe it and, to tell the truth, even though he pretended not to take any responsibility, I know he felt a bit guilty.

Weeks ago they had had a meeting around a bonfire and that annoying Adalberto had suggested that you sacrifice yourself by throwing yourself into the fire to see if in this way we could see the light of a rebirth of the world.

Seriously, fucking Adalberto, as if he didn’t remember when you jumped off the third floor of a dark construction site (when you inexplicably fell into a mountain of sand) or when you decided to show Louis how to cross the streets in Mexico.

Well yes, you have sacrificed yourself master and I can only hear you now inside my head recite:

So so! Who is it? It’s the Devil,

    It is a thick fatigue,

    a desire to transpose

    these enemy boundaries,

    this incessant dying,

    tenacious, this living death,

Oh God! that is killing you

    in your strict ways,

in the roses and in the stones,

    in the surly stars

and in the meat that is spent

    like a bonfire lit,

    for singing, for dreaming,

by the color of the view.

So so! Who is it? It’s the Devil,

    oh, a blind joy,

    a hunger to consume

    the air you breathe,

    the mouth, the eye, the hand;

    these pungent tickles

    to enjoy ourselves whole

in just a burst of laughter,

    oh, this insulting death,

    ribald, that murders us

    at a distance, from taste

what we took to die her,

    for a cup of tea,

    for just a caress.

Death (and life) without end: with your sacrifice, you have made the world reborn in us, because “Master, Master is the one who changes your life.”
