VOLUME 1, ISSUE III

Letter from the editor.
Note: This issue of REVARTE is the one that adds the most contributions so far and the one that takes us into the various ways of living education from the community. We hope that it is a window of hope in a world that today lives in convulsion and with a lack of justice and peace.
The Various Ways of Living and Understanding Education
We constantly hear the popular phrase “Knowledge is power” and the questions that emerge are: What is knowledge for? And who does knowledge serve? Aware that education has often been used to reproduce control systems that oppress, segregate, and generate social castes, it is fair to question it, and give a counter-narrative of the same, in REVARTE we take the position of the Brazilian educator Paulo Freire and postulate that Education must belong to the communities, and it must be to liberate, to humanize, to heal, to dialogue, to open dignified paths, to generate life opportunities, to generate environmental justice, and to seek justice and peace. Therefore, we have dedicated this issue to share the work of three educational movements on the continent that were born from the community and that experience parallelism both in their philosophy and in their praxis. Contrary to the powers that seek to hijack the word either through the government, economic resources or with symbolic powers, REVARTE postulates a free word, in which education cries out like that CCATE saying that says: “All the knowledge in the world from everyone and for everyone.”
We are talking about the Center for Culture, Art, Work and Education (CCATE) located in one of the suburbs of Philadelphia: Norristown in the state of Pennsylvania, the United States. From Don Quixote for life, and from The Children’s Scientific Village, both initiatives located in the Puente Piedra district on the edge of the city of Lima, Peru. In each section you can find glimpses of these movements.
The issue also explores how education seeks cultural roots, while recognizing the immigrant community’s constant struggle to preserve them. Francis Arellano, sociology student at Bryn Mawr College and folk dance teacher at CCATE, shares her experience as a Mexican with Zapotec roots, and the loss of her mother tongue suppressed by the Los Angeles school system; The Mexican journalist Leticia Roa Nixon shares with us a short graphic documentary of the new journalism that combines social narrative and fiction and thus takes us into the representations of the huipils in the Tzotzil culture of Chiapas. And the CCATE Participatory Research Circle (CIPC) presents its pilot podcast in which they reflect on the topic of exhuming or unearthing roots.
Children and youth share with us their life journey, their perspective on education and the proposals they have to generate changes in the school system, thus Louisa Sandorff compiled the voices of her students in the “Babel” writing class that she teaches in CCATE. Cielo Ramos, and David Azzolini make us share their experiences in Don Quixote and the transformation process they have had by belonging to that community. Likewise, we have the first collaboration of the collective of Colombian origin: Diseño Detonante, which shares about “a sequence of workshops carried out in Mexico City at the School of Design of the National Institute of Fine Arts in the months of October and November” as pointed out by the philosopher and architect Aura Cruz and who reflects on the contributions of REV/BELAR, and the implications of the human fragmentation that we experience today. At REVARTE we hope that the participation of young people of various generations continues to spread and grow.
The literature section is enriched with a collection of poems by the Peruvian poet Ana Vera, and by the members of the CCATE writing circle who have worked for the last 4 months under the expressionism method of the Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal. We also invite you to read the third installment of the short novels that Lourdes Flores, Aura Cruz and Rosalba Esquivel Cote present.
An issue dedicated to education cannot ignore one of the most important social movements of this quarter of a century, which is the disappeared Normalistas of Ayotzinapa. Obed Arango shares a photo report of the visit he made to the camp that was set up on the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, and which has resisted ever since. The photo report reflects on the role of young people in education and how they shake systems, it happened in 1968, 1986, 1999 and 2014.
The media section offers several firsts, on the one hand, the presentation of the short film “Don Quixote with a camera in hand” produced by the children, adolescents and adults of Don Quixote for life in which they capture their surroundings as a first experience with the movie camera. The extraordinary cinematographic essay produced by Mexican filmmaker David Villalvazo entitled “ChatGPT does not know how to dance” presents us in a clear and concrete way the difference between learning by definition and by experience. A deep reflection prepared in a brilliant way in the use of the various languages it integrates, and that appeal to what we know on social networks. In a special way we would like to highlight the first podcast produced for REVARTE by Andy and Pablo in which they interview the young clothing designer and artist Isabela Hoyos, originally from Manizales, Colombia, who shares with us how she carries out her artistic work. And finally Obed Arango presents us with the profile of “Adolfo Peredo, an essential educator” as a tribute to more than four decades of work among the children of Peru of the founder of La Aldea Cientifica e Infantil.
Every word in this issue reminds us that education is a human good that should be for everyone and from everyone.

Colonizadores españoles,
De suma realeza,
Que razón hubo para
Tra taros con tanta impureza.
Desgracias tragedias,
Esclavitudes ingenuas,
Pero sobre todo virreyes
Con sus reglas maltrechas.
Llegaron sin invitación,
A robar nuestras riquezas y motivación,
Cesarnos desamparados
y tratarnos de esclavos
Sin remedio y radiación.
Es triste aceptar y darles las gracias,
Gracias por la diversidad de razas
Razas?
Castas?
Diferentes culturas, diferentes sistemas
– Eficientes
– Ineficientes
– Exclusivos
– Populares
Somos culturas diversas
Todos podemos soñar
Basta de colonizar!
English Version:
Grateful or Cursed?
Spanish colonizers,
Of supreme royalty,
What reason was there for
Treat you with such impurity.
Misfortunes tragedies,
Naive slavery,
But above all viceroys
With its battered rules.
They arrived without invitation,
To steal our wealth and motivation,
Cesar us helpless
and treat us as slaves
Without medicine and radiation.
It’s sad to accept and thank them,
Thanks for the diversity of races
Races?
Castes?
Estate?
That make us unique, equal and different at the same time,
Different cultures, different systems
– Efficient
– Inefficient
– Exclusives
– Popular
– For those above
– For those below
We are all people,
We live in the mountains that embrace the sun,
Here the hill covers with colors of love,
Where diversity is a melting pot,
That endures without reason.
We are diverse cultures
We can all dream
Enough colonizing!

My World – Your World – Our World
Hello, I am Ruth Sarai Layme Cardenas, I am 14 years old, I live in Lomas de Chalguani, I arrived 12 years ago when I was 3 years old and my brother Marcos was a month old. My family, my dad, mom, my two brothers and I, who am the second daughter (almost the oldest).
In my community there are several problems, for example:
WATER AND DRAINAGE. We live in ungular where there is no drainage, so people use blind wells, another big problem is water… In my community there are people who open the pipe and already have water, on the other hand, the people who live in the highest parts must buy water to fill a cylinder. Because? If we live in the same country, on the same planet and we are equal…
Although Chalguaní has flaws, it also has something wonderful, something beautiful. In Chalguani we have a library for all children and people who want to know more about the world and from the top of the hill you can see everything that is down in that unjust world. Better when it’s night, the city lighthouses look like stars fallen from the sky and the view from the top is very beautiful.
Denote the pain is transformed, at night we see lights of hope. I like being with my family, I like books, I like to see the world from above, see the world with lights of hope.

This is no regular story; this story the villain wins the fight. In a world of magic, some people use it for good or bad, but if you have more than one or more than two powers, you are treated better than others. For someone who has five powers, that become one of the greatest heroes but cannot defeat one of the strongest villains. This is how one of the greatest heroes loses a battle for the first time.
The bell had just rung, and it was time for me to go back to my dorm room. I was ready to call my younger sister Evelyn, but then I heard my name get called by my bff Rudy.
“Maggie!”
“Yes?” I said
“Ready to go back,” she said. “Mhm,” I said.
Blossom High… my favorite school. I love it. “Hey, Maggie, aren’t you happy that we are going to be heroes together?” Rudy said.
“No…” I said.
“You aren’t happy,” she said.
“No… I’m excited!!” I said. I can’t wait.
Two weeks later, I went to training and found a few hiding villains. When I got back to Blossom High, there were lots of people that were cheering for me for being one of the heroes that found the most villains. When I got to my dorm, I looked at some city footage to find more villains. After some time, I found a villain hiding in an alleyway. But, something did not look right because the villain kept looking both ways. When the villain stopped moving, the camera went black, and I couldn’t see anything. I kept on investigating by looking at more footage that the villain was in.
A few days later, I found out that the villain’s power was that he could hack into any device just with his mind. He also had a hideout where his villain group hung out they were called the Sunset Crows.
So I got ready to find where the hideout was hidden. When I got to the alleyway, I was looking for clues that might help me find where the hideout was, and I found a button. I pushed the button, and a secret door opened, so I went in walking slowly.
“It’s pretty dark in here,” I said as I walked through the hallway. I kept on walking until I came across a room, and I slowly tiptoed in. I saw files and paper everywhere. I picked one up and read
“5/12/24 from SR to Mike thank you for bringing us to the SR here. There are lots of villains and shadows that live here,” I asked myself. What’s SR? And there are lots of villains there.
“And if you forgot what SR is, it’s the shadow realm. In this realm, all the villains and shadows that escaped came to the SR,” I finished reading. All of a sudden, I heard my code name “Luna,” someone said. I turned around and said, “Who are you?”
“I am the shadow you have been looking for,” he said.
“My name is Mike,” he said.
“Shadow?” I said, “What’s a shadow,” I asked.
“A shadow is a type of villain,” Mike said.
“There are types of villains?” I said.
“Yes, there are…and you are going to meet them.”
“Mike, did you trap the hero?… Uhm, what’s her name again?” someone said. “her code name… or her real name.”
“Um, I guess her code name.” “her code name is Luna,” he said. “And I did trap her…I am going to send her now.”
What are they talking about, I thought. All of a sudden, a portal opened, and I fell in. When I woke up, I was on a bed and saw a girl looking at me.
“Are you okay?” she asked in a worried voice.
“Who are you?” I asked.
“I’m J-Jade…Jade the healer,” she stuttered.
“Where am I?,” I said.
“You are in the shadow realm”
“THE SHADOW REALM!!” I yelled.
”Shhhh… they’re going to hear you. I was able to get to you before the shadows did,” Jade said.
As I calmed down, I noticed that her hair wasn’t like the normal hair colors that the people back at home had. Her hair was a pastel rainbow with white. I couldn’t help myself but ask, “Is that your real hair color?”.
She looked confused “Yes it is”.
”Oh, I was just asking because I’ve never seen hair like yours before back at home.”
“I can tell that you are not from here, so tell me what is your world like?” Jade asked.
“Where can I begin?” And I began to tell her all about my realm.
A few moments later, I hear her tell me that 60% of her realm is villains, 30% are shadows, and 10% of the realm is good people. I told her that I was a hero in the other realm and that I could help her realm to make it better. Jade was thrilled to hear that and told me that there was someone who could train me to be good at using my skill and magic.
We walked out of the building we were in and entered a ten-story building next to it. While we entered, I saw an empty big blue room through the window. As we were walking through the hall, we took a turn, and all of a sudden, we heard a loud POP! Then a girl appeared out of thin air and said in a disturbed voice:
“Who are you guys? And what are you doing here?”
“Calm down, Alyssa, it’s me,” Jade said in a smooth voice.
“Oh, what are you doing here, Jade, and who’s that with you?” Alyssa said.
“This is Maggie, and I wanted to ask if you could train her,” Jade said.
“And why would I do that,” Alyssa said.
“Maggie is from the other realm and is a hero. She wants to help us,” said Jade.
“Mmm, I guess I can train her, but I can’t fully trust this Maggie though,” said Alyssa, unsure of how to train her. “We can start right now,” Alyssa exclaimed.
I trained day and night for a week straight. For training, she taught me how to fight by using my skills. Every day during training, Jade made us lunch and dinner. After a few weeks, Alyssa told me that she would send me to Kevin one. I asked her:
“Who is Kevin one?”
“Kevin one is a guardian that tests your skill and magic,” said Alyssa.
“Ok, when am I going?” I asked.
“You are going tomorrow,” Alyssa said.
I went to sleep that night to make sure I had enough energy for tomorrow. The next day, Alyssa and Jade brought me to Kevin one’s training field. “This is the so-called hero that I’m going to test?” Kevin said.
“Yes,” I said.
“Mmm ok let’s start the test now,” Kevin said.
“Kevin,” Jade said.
“What?” Kevin said in a rough voice.
“Please let her pass,” said Alyssa.
“Fine,” Kevin said, rolling his eyes.
We started the first test, and I passed. The second test was pretty hard, but I passed. The last test was to fight Kevin one, but I wasn’t strong enough to beat him.
“I will let you pass under one condition,” said Kevin one.
“Uh, what condition?” I said.
“You let a little bad remain in this realm,” Kevin exclaimed.
“Ok, fine,” I said.
“You are free to go,” he said.
“Thanks,” I said in a worried voice.
I left as soon as that happened. “Hey, Kevin, did you put the tracker on the Luna?” someone said on the walkie-talkie.
“Yes, Eina, now where is my money,” Kevin said madly.
“I will give you it now,” said Eina coldly.
As I walked on the street, someone came running at me, and I fell, “Hi Luna, do you remember me?” she said.
“No, who are you?” I said, worried
“It’s me, Eina, the girl you locked in jail,” she said.
“Eina…HOW DID YOU GET OUT?” I yelled.
“Oh, I have my ways,” she smirked.
“Holder of five powers, you know people only liked you because you had five,” Eina said.
“No, they liked because I’m a good person,” I said. I saw that people were looking at us and gathering around.
“Good person, you,” she started laughing.
“What, I am a good person,” I said.
“That whole realm and you did not listen to people that had less power because you thought they were weak and couldn’t do anything, but now it’s time for them to shine,” Eina exclaimed loudly. I took my hand and was going to use my Telekinesis to throw her, but she grabbed my hand and tossed me across the street. I was getting ready to throw a spike ball at her, but my power didn’t work.
“How does it feel not to be able to use your power, mmm,” she smiled.
“What did you do, how did you do that?” I said.
“Do you think I would tell you,” she kept on smiling. I started to feel weak and tired.
“Oh, and I already took care of your friend,” Eina started laughing.
“Uh…what,” I said as I took my last breath.
“Yes, I complete my promise,” Eina yelled out.

GUY EoM2 Myth Scene
“¡Maggie!”
“¿Sí?” Yo dije
“Listo para regresar”, dijo. “Mmm”, dije.
Blossom High… mi escuela favorita, me encanta.
dijo Rudy.
“No yo dije.
“No eres feliz”, dijo.
“No… ¡¡Estoy emocionado!!” Yo dije. No puedo esperar.
Me di vuelta y dije: “¿Quién eres?”.
“Soy la sombra que estabas buscando”, dijo.
“Mi nombre es Mike”, dijo.
“¿Sombra?”
“Soy J-Jade… Jade la sanadora”, tartamudeó.
“¿Dónde estoy?”, dije.
“Estás en el reino de las sombras”
“¡¡EL REINO DE LAS SOMBRAS!!” I grité.
“Shhhh… te van a escuchar.
Dijo Kevin.
“Sí, he dicho
“No, ¿quién eres tú?” dije preocupado
“Eina… ¿CÓMO SALISTE?” I grité.
“Buena persona”, comenzó a reírse.
Yo dije.
“¿Crees que te lo diría?” siguió sonriendo. Empecé a sentirme débil y cansado.

The numbers change
The wax keeps dripping
The flame keeps burning
An eerie feeling creeps
Each year
It’s you
The dark bliss surrounds
The name is yours
Pretty and decorated, your cake is
Synchronized voices merge
Your name rings
All focus on you
Blow the candles out
A wish swirls
You’re a kid still
Split second
Flashes of your memories
Evanescent sentiment
Time is surreal
Awakening it is
Dreamlike state
Open your eyes
While tears pool
Short-lived occurrence
Keep me here forever
My song concludes
A comfort in the uncomfortable
A moment for granted
A moment never cherished
A cycle never ending
Until it ends
Versión en Español:
Los Números Cambian
Los números cambian
La cera sigue goteando
La llama sigue ardiendo
Un sentimiento inquietante se arrastra
Cada año
Eres tú
La dicha oscura rodea
El nombre es tuyo
Bonita y decorada, tu tarta queda
Voces sincronizadas se fusionan
Tu nombre suena
Todos se centran en ti
Apaga las velas
Un deseo gira
Eres un niño todavía
Fracción de segundo
Destellos de tus recuerdos
Sentimiento evanescente
El tiempo es surrealista
Despertar es
Estado de ensueño
Abre tus ojos
Mientras las lágrimas se acumulan
Ocurrencia de corta duración
Mantenme aquí para siempre
Mi canción concluye
Un consuelo en lo incómodo
Un momento por sentado
Un momento nunca apreciado
Un ciclo sin fin
Hasta que termine.
