Bienvenidos a todos:

Estoy muy feliz de verlos a todos reunidos aquí, se que es por una buena causa.

El arte transforma corazones, pensamientos, quita el estrés y así puedo dar muchos ejemplos lindos de cómo el arte ha sanado familias completas, así como a nuestra juventud les ha dado el conocimiento de encontrar su pasión, y cuando digo pasión es amor a  lo que hacen, ya sea pintar, dibujar, tocar música, hacer fotografía, ciencias, jardinería, robótica, y hay tantas cosas que los niños hacen en este maravilloso lugar llamado CCATE .

No puedo evitar suspirar al escribir CCATE ya que es aquí donde estoy, y donde me siento como si fuera mi segundo hogar, donde todos nos identificamos siendo inmigrantes soñadores, en este momento tengo una familia enorme, de la que me siento orgullosa de todos.

Recuerdo las primeras veces que llegué, sin saber que me quedaría ya que me dio mucha paz al encontrar personas que tenían mucho interés en que los niños hicieran sus tareas y que se sintieran en familia, y que fueran reconocidos en sus propios espacios llenos de ellos mismos siendo niños.

En CCATE se respetan las opiniones, se admira cada detalle, se aplaude cada logro, se reconoce cada esfuerzo, colaboración y sacrificio, pero sobre todo se ama al ser humano que somos, sin distinción de edad, etnia, raza, credo, sexo y género.

Los  niños me han enseñado a ser mucho más paciente a ver la vida a través de sus ojitos juguetones porque ellos son la alegría de nuestra casa, sin ellos aquí estaría solitario y silencioso, y en la vida debemos de hacer ruido para que entre nosotros recordemos que hay por quien luchar y seguir de pie para que toda lucha valga la pena . 

He recorrido muchos lugares con mis hijos de la mano de CCATE, he visitado universidades con una bebe en pancita pero también con lluvia, nieve, calor y hemos ido en tren, en la ccatera y carros propios llevando a otros chicos animándoles a que sigan estudiando, y eso para mi ha sido la mejor satisfaccion, que despues de mucho ajetreo y las anécdotas y todo lo que conlleva llevar adolescentes…imagínense ustedes esos viajes. 

Estamos conscientes que el camino no es fácil ya que a veces sentimos en la vida y en el pueblo que en lugar de avanzar vamos hacia atrás,  pero les digo hoy y les repito, que los pasos que damos por los nuestros y por los que no pueden asistir, estaremos nosotros para hacer que sus voces se escuchen en todos los lugares que visitemos.

Nuestra preocupación desde el inicio ha sido la educación, y la escuela de nuestros hijos, ofrecemos y hemos ofrecido nuestro talento, nuestra conocimiento, nuestros sueños, nuestro idioma, nuestros valores, nuestra sabiduría y nuestro corazón al sistema escolar todos estos años, y lo seguiremos haciendo. Pero nos preocupa la violencia creciente, y la ausencia de respuestas a muchas interrogantes.  Quiero invitar a toda la comunidad que se una a la lucha, una lucha amable, honesta, dialógica, sincera, llena de amor, para transformar el sistema educativo, para que la escuela sea un mejor lugar donde los pequeños vayan con alegría y no con miedo, porque es en la escuela donde pasan el mayor tiempo, busquemos soluciones entre educadores, directivos, comunidades, organizaciones y familias. Esta lucha no es de unos contra otros, es de todos. Porque la comunidad, y los niños son el centro de nuestro corazón.

Para nosotros el arte, no es una mera actividad que realizamos cada día. Sino que ha sido el medio más poderoso que nos ha dado voz. Buscamos que el arte cambie vidas y que el mundo donde vivimos sea de paz y alegría, cuidemos nuestro hogar y ayudemos, donemos hoy, para que CCATE continúe siendo un maravilloso lugar.  

Compren el arte, que nace de la inocencia de los que nos rodean

CCATE Noche de Arte 2023 and 11th Anniversary: Speech by Lourdes Flores 

Welcome everybody. I am very happy to see you all gathered here! I know it is for a good cause!

Art transforms hearts, thoughts, and alleviates stress. I can give many beautiful examples of how art has healed entire families, just as it has given our youth the opportunity to find their passion. And when I say passion, it is love for what they do, be it painting, drawing, playing music, photography, science, gardening, robotics, and more. There are so many things that children do in this wonderful place called CCATE.

I cannot help but sigh as I write about CCATE since this is where I find myself, and where I feel as if it were my second home, where we all identify as dreaming immigrants. At this moment I have a huge family here, and I feel proud of all of us.

I remember the first time I arrived, not knowing that I would stay for so many years. It gave me a lot of peace to find people who were interested in supporting children with their homework and making them feel like a family, and that had their own space to be themselves, to be who they are as children.

At CCATE, opinions are respected, every detail is admired, every achievement is applauded, every effort, collaboration, and sacrifice is recognized. But above all, the human beings that we are, are loved, regardless of age, ethnicity, race, creed, sex, and gender.

Children have taught me to be much more patient to see life through their playful eyes because they are the joy of our house here at CCATE. Without them it would be lonely and silent here, and in life we ​​must make noise so that we remember each other, and that there is someone to fight for and stand up for. Each fight and effort is worth it.

I have traveled many places with my children hand in hand with CCATE. I have visited universities with a baby “on the way,” and also with rain, snow, heat. And we have gone by train, in the “CCATERA” van, and in our own cars, with each other’s children, encouraging them to continue studying. This, for me, has been the best satisfaction, after all of the hustle and bustle, the stories, and all  that is involved in traveling with teenagers…imagine those trips!

We are aware that the road is not easy since sometimes we feel in life and in the town that instead of moving forward we are going backwards. But I tell you today and I repeat, that the steps we take are ours, and we take them for those in our community who cannot be present. We will be here and wherever we need to go to make their voices heard in all the places we visit.

Our concern from the beginning has been education, and our children’s schooling. All these years we have offered the schools, and will continue to offer, our talents, our knowledges, our dreams, our language, our values, our wisdom and our hearts to the school system. But we are concerned about the growing violence, and the lack of answers to many questions. I want to invite the entire community to join the fight, a friendly, honest, dialogic, sincere, love-filled fight, to transform the educational system, 

so that school is a better place where children go with joy and not with fear. Because it is at school where they spend the most time, we need to seek solutions among educators, administrators, principals, the school board, the community, local organizations and families. This fight is not against each other, it is for everyone, because the community, and the children are the center of our hearts.

For us, art is not merely an activity that we carry out every day. Rather, it has been the most powerful medium that has given us a voice. We seek art to change lives and for the world where we live to be one of peace, color and joy. Let’s take care of our home, let’s support, let’s donate today, so that CCATE continues to be a wonderful place.
